COUNCIL workers have been recognised for their bloomin’ marvellous efforts.
North East Lincolnshire Council was presented with two awards from the East Midlands In Bloom judges in recognition of workers’ hard work.
The awards were presented by the Cleethorpes In Bloom team Bob Callison and Jeff Blanchard at the Pier Gardens.
The council received an award for Horticultural Excellence for the Kingsway Garden and the council’s street cleansing team were recognised for excellent maintenance of the area.
Cleethorpes In Bloom vice- chairman, Jeff Blanchard said: “If the street cleaning team didn’t do their job we would not have been able to achieve what we have with In Bloom.
“We would be lost without them.”
Cleethorpes In Bloom chairman Bob Callison added: “Cleethorpes is such a busy resort and we hold many events here.
“This often causes problems with litter.
“We are reassured that by the next morning the streets will be pristine.
“We know they will work hard to keep the streets looking perfect.
“They are very dedicated and take great pride in their work.”
Councillor Dave Watson, portfolio holder for environment, tourism and visitor economy, said: “It’s nice to see the staff receiving an accolade for their hard work.”
NELC employ 90 full-time members of staff across North East Lincolnshire in their grounds and maintenance department.
The area has enjoyed a gold rush of awards at this year’s competition – Grimsby, Cleethorpes and Immingham all scooped top awards.
Jeff Blanchard received a special award as the most committed In Bloom member.
Bob added: “It’s a very exciting time for the area.
“We are confident ahead of the final but it will be tough because we are up against the best of the best.
“I feel such pride to represent Cleethorpes and to accept awards on the town’s behalf.”
The national judging for the In Bloom competition takes place on Friday, October 16.
