Grab your trowel and don your gardening gloves – a resort competition which encourages gardeners young and old to get growing is getting underway.
With lots of categories to enter there’s bound to be one to suit you in the annual Cleethorpes In Bloom event.
As in previous years, it is all being sponsored by the Grimsby Garden Centre, with a host of vouchers up for grabs for the best entries.
Gold, Silver or Bronze certificates will be issued in each category, with vouchers worth £30, £20, and £10 respectively.
The categories are:
Street, Community or Alleyway
House front garden, rear garden or both
Pub
School
Business
Attraction
Group Dwelling
Young Gardener – open to those aged five to 16 years only.
Vice-chairman of the group Jeff Blanchard said: “Many people will have already started their sowing and preparations will be well under way.
“But we would like to encourage other people – especially those who have not entered before – to have a go, as there is still time.
“This will be the second year of the Young Gardener category and we would love lots more budding young gardeners to have a go.
“Some of the categories bring communities together, such as the street category.
“Those taking part can make a world of difference to their surroundings and it gives them a community spirit. The Grimsby Garden Centre has once again agreed to supply vouchers as prizes for this great competition, giving inspiration to all who enter.”
Grimsby Garden Centre store supervisor Craig Champion said: “Everyone should get involved in this great competition, as everyone benefits from seeing what people can do and grow.
“We should all do our bit to make Cleethorpes a better place, not only for the residents but for the thousands of visitors we get each year.”
Derick Thomas, of Barkhouse Close, was a first-time gold winner in the competition last year, with his entry in the Group Dwelling category.
He said: “People who live near me and the visitors that come and park next to me are grateful for the look of the garden.
“Everyone enjoys it. It enhances the area.”
The closing dates for entries is Friday, June 26, and judging will take place during week commencing Monday, June 29.
